They're laying!

The first egg. The eggs we collected today.

OH! How exciting! How old were your hens when they laid that first egg? I can't wait for our first one! I keep checking the nest box. Nothing, yet.

Our hens were 20 weeks old. They've been laying for only a week. The first one, we heard on Saturday afternoon making quite a ruckus. We found her squatting in various places and scratching the ground. Since we had places to go, we couldn't follow up until morning. Sunday morning I stepped out on the porch and spotted a perfect little brown egg under a chair.
We check for eggs so often that I'm sure we annoy the hens. Some like to lay in our storage shed, some like to lay in the leaves right beside our fence, and at least one has started to lay in the nesting boxes that we provided. We placed dummy eggs in there to encourage them to lay there.
I'm sure yours will be laying any day now.
Who'da thunk this egg thing would be so exciting?!

How cool! I'd love to walk outside and find fresh eggs everyday! We love eggs around this house!
