Free Range Chickens

Happy little ladies, they are.

Wow! They are so big! Ours are getting rather large, also. It is hard to believe that they are still just baby chickens. We hope to get an electric poultry fence next year and let ours out of the coop during the day. Then I can let the grass grow and make seed and maybe cut their store-bought feed out altogether.

We didn't actually intend to let the girls free range. That chicken tractor was a little cumbersome! When we would let them get out of it for a few minutes, they spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to make it back in... so we figured they wouldn't go far. They've been out every day since Memorial Day, and stay in our front yard or back yard. We close them up at night to keep them safe. There's a partial fence, but it's not electrified. I think they just don't like to go far from their tractor.
