Sincere Prayer

I've been sitting here in bed thinking that my prayers for my children have become rote. I want to pray specific prayers for them instead of just generalized, last minute prayers. It seems that I run out of time (i.e. fall asleep) during my night time prayers too often and just make brief mention of them. I was thinking that I would google "how to pray for children" and see what I could find. I thought I would do that right after visiting the Compassion International website to change my address. Look what I found while I was there!
What a blessing! I can use this as inspiration for praying for my kids and our sponsored child as well.
I struggle with prayer sometimes. I don't feel like I set apart enough time for it. It feels at times like I have so many people that I want to lift up in prayer that it seems that all I am doing is giving God a request list. I don't feel much like I am spending time with God. I think I am going to start a prayer/praise journal.

The Ferocious Beast

She's not really ferocious, although she was a little protective of this bone at first. I'll be the first to say that I am not a dog person. I would never choose to own a dog. I tried a couple of times because the children really wanted a dog, but it did not work out. This dog, however, has worked her way into my heart. She sometimes follows so closely that I step on her. She has taken to jumping in my car when I am loading the kids up to go somewhere. She sits protectively beside my 2 year old daughter when she is sitting on a small bicycle in her grandma's front yard. The first thing she does upon entering my mother-in-law's house is check all of the bedrooms for my children. She has even won over Scott, who will feed her from his plate when no one is looking. We will miss her when we buy our house, and I think the feeling will be mutual.

Progress on the house

The new doors were put in yesterday. These photos don't really do justice to how bad the old doors were. Right now the new doors look very out of place on the unfinished outside of the house. The siding guys are making good progress in spite of having been swarmed by angry wasps yesterday. I'll post more pictures as we go on. The flooring guy is starting tomorrow at 9am. We are hoping to be ready for the appraisal next week.

Family Reunion

This post should be accompanied by photos, but I felt weird bringing a camera to church and snapping pictures of everyone. The first pastor that Scott and I ever had came to preach at our current church on Sunday. He will henceforth be referred to as OP (Old Pastor). Several families from our OC (Old Church) came to see the OP, who has had a rough year of health problems. OP and his wife are among my personal heroes of the faith, and I maybe look at them with a glassed over look of someone admiring a favorite soft rock star. OP told me before church started that a family from the OC was coming. Imagine my surprise when I turned around before church to look for this particular family and saw 2 pews back the woman who led children's church at the OC and led Nicholas to salvation in the Lord. She and her husband are also among my heroes of the faith. God has blessed Scott and I with many wonderful examples of couples serving the Lord together. I found the family I was searching for and was thrilled to see yet another couple from the OC was sitting with them. It makes me think of the old gospel song (and if you've been in a Southern Gospel loving church, you'll know this one) "When we all get to Heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be". It seemed that everywhere I looked I saw old familiar brothers and sisters in Christ mingled with the ones we've just recently come to know and love.
For the Sunday evening service, we were blessed to have in attendance a young lady from our old youth group at the OC. Scott and I had run into her the night before and invited her to come. She is facing some struggles in her life and really needs the support of her Christian brothers and sisters. Please pray for April if the Lord puts her on your heart. Scott and I had the pleasure of taking her out to dinner after the service so we could catch up on each others lives and offer her support and prayer.

We've been bad bloggers. Too much time has passed since we've posted anything.

We are rehab-ing a house to live in. Today was spent priming, painting, removing old gutters and trim, and getting bids from contractors. Tomorrow Scott will start to rip off all of the old vinyl siding. I will continue with priming, painting, and etc. The children will get to play outside most of the day again. There is a beautiful yard for them to play in. They have been working on a cat house for a stray cat. It has been built and re-built many times.

Tomorrow is also church again. Scott is going to have the youth do lawn work for the church. It will give them an opportunity to be outside socializing, which is what they prefer to do, anyway.
